Usui Shiki Ryoho is a specific Reiki practice characterised by Four Aspects and Nine Elements. In the First Degree Class, initiations given by masters connect new students to the energy of Reiki for a lifetime. Student practice includes self-treatment, receiving treatment from other Reiki students, and treating others. This system honours the Spiritual Lineage of
Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi, Hawayo Takata, Phyllis Lei Furumoto, and Johannes Reindl.
Usui Shiki Ryoho has been passed down through this lineage, evolving gradually through the influences of the changing world, the passion of each Lineage Bearer, and the guidance of Reiki, highlighting the value of long-term practice.
The Office of the Grandmaster (OGM), founded in 1993, continues to this day. Energetically, the Office holds the essential stream of energy that flows through this Spiritual Lineage and also serves as a business entity for the work of
Johannes Reindl, Paul Mitchell and Joyce Winough.

Johannes Reindl
LINEAGE BEARER AND GRANDMASTER OF USUI SHIKI RYOHO
Johannes Reindl was born in October 1977 in Linz, Austria, and grew up in a nearby village. After many years of practising Reiki, he asked to become a student of Phyllis Furumoto’s in October 2013, to prepare for mastery. After four years of preparation, he was initiated as a Reiki Master by Phyllis Furumoto in Kyoto, Japan.
In February 2019, when Phyllis asked Johannes to come to Arizona to serve as an interpreter for French, he had no idea that a short month later, in March 2019, Phyllis would recognise him as her successor and the next Lineage Bearer.
To accept this honour and to grow into this role, Johannes holds close to what he learned in his first-degree class: "Reiki will support you on your path and will call you. In times when you might think, 'this is too much for me,' Reiki will help you grow and go beyond what you might believe is possible for yourself."
Joyce Winough
REIKI MASTER & OFFICE OF THE GRAND MASTER
Joyce came to Reiki through an unexpected path. In 1987, while searching for a sailboat in Honolulu with her yacht broker, Jean Ferris, Joyce was dealing with pain and discomfort from a herniated disk caused by years of working as a carpenter in commercial construction. After looking at a few sailboats, Jean mentioned that her Reiki Master was coming to teach a class and suggested that Reiki could support Joyce's healing, particularly for her back. Being a "do it yourself" person, this idea appealed to Joyce, and she immediately registered for the First Degree Reiki class with Helen Haberly.
In 1997, after attending a Way To Harmony Week with Paul Mitchell, Joyce committed to becoming a Reiki Master and began a professional treatment practice. This period of offering Reiki treatments to the public gave her valuable experience in how Reiki supports various healing processes. Joyce connected with Phyllis Furumoto, and after four years as a Master candidate under her guidance, Joyce was initiated as a Reiki Master in 2002.
